Dental crowns and bridges placed at our Rexburg, ID, practice can restore a smile compromised by missing or damaged teeth. Crowns are tooth-shaped caps that are typically used to cover teeth following treatment for trauma or advanced decay. Crowns can also replace single missing teeth in conjunction with dental implants. Bridges, sometimes called partial dentures, are designed to replace several consecutive missing teeth. We work with an outstanding offsite lab to create restorations in about two weeks, and can provide temporary restorations in the meantime. When needed, our dental practice uses CEREC technology to create these restorations in the span of a single appointment.
Crowns and bridges have unique attributes that address specific issues. In general, crowns help repair a single tooth, while bridges are recommended when several consecutive teeth are missing, but many healthy teeth along the dental arch remain in place. Crowns are frequently the final step in a root canal procedure, which eliminates advanced decay but often leaves the tooth structurally compromised.
In other cases, patients may choose to receive a crown for cosmetic reasons, such as the concealment of deep stains that do not respond to teeth whitening. During your consultation, we will assess the state of your smile and note your goals in order to recommend the best treatment for your needs.
Planning and Placing Your Crown or Bridge
The timeline involved in receiving a crown or bridge depends on the extent of treatment you require. Often, we can perform a root canal and provide a custom crown all within the same office visit, allowing you to leave with a fully restored smile. However, if you require extraction, or if you need periodontal care prior to receiving your restorations, the process will likely require two or more office visits.
If you are suffering from missing, damaged, or aching teeth, we are here to provide not only relief, but also restored health, function, and aesthetics.
We will always perform all treatments needed to restore the health of your teeth and gums before proceeding with the crafting of your crown or bridge. If you wish to support your crown or bridge with a dental implant, this will require at least two surgical procedures with about three to six months of healing time in between.
When it is confirmed that you are ready to receive your crown or bridge, we will take digital impressions of your smile. These will either guide the CEREC machine in creating your restoration from a single block of porcelain, or the images will be sent to our partner lab if you require a restoration made of metal or other material requiring a technician’s skill.
